“I’ve known Josh Kinsey for several years.  First as a member of the Lunaria Art Gallery in Silverton, OR of which I was also a member.  In this capacity I became familiar with his masterful ability as an artist, designer and builder.  His talents far exceeded that of most artists.  He had an incredible resume and portfolio that attested to his many professional abilities.  His works are admired throughout the United States.

I had purchased a new home in Silverton, OR that had an awkward wall in the living room. The fireplace sat off center on that wall and was surrounded by dead space on either side.  I contracted with Josh to design and build custom cabinets on that wall to create a better focal point than the fireplace.  He interviewed me, asking about what I liked, the intended use, etc.  He took extensive notes of the other cabinetry in the home including the style of the existing cabinets and then incorporated all of my needs and wants for that space.  He made recommendations that took everything to the next level.  He added lighting, glass doors and a special display area for my collection of vintage perfume atomizers.  It turned out fabulously!

During my career as an executive for the U S Postal Service, I made many moves and had a number of homes either built or remodeled.  I’ve worked with many contractors over the years; Josh Kinsey’s talents far exceeded any of the others.  He was true to his contract, kept me abreast of the next steps and timelines, treated it as not only a job but a labor of love of his craft, and was hands-down the best finish carpenter I have ever used.  He is a perfectionist and master of his craft, and it shows.  My guests always comment on the cabinetry that he designed and built.  I cannot recommend him highly enough.  He is an artist, designer and carpenter and has mastered each of these.”

“I’ve known Josh Kinsey for over 25 years, and I can say without hesitation that he is one of the most exceptional professionals I’ve ever met. Josh is more than a highly skilled craftsman—he’s a true artist and visionary. Entirely self-taught, he’s driven by an intense curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning that sets him apart. When Josh encounters something new, he doesn’t just learn it; he masters it, approaching every project as an opportunity to expand his expertise and push his craft to new heights.

Beyond his craftsmanship, Josh brings an impressive level of organization and focus to every project. He’s deeply timeline-driven, which means that if he commits to a deadline, you can rest assured he’ll meet it, no matter what. His professionalism is second to none, giving clients the peace of mind that every detail will be meticulously managed, every deliverable on time.

One of Josh’s greatest strengths is his ability to collaborate. He’s not only creative and inventive but also a joy to work with—bringing a sense of fun and openness that makes even the most challenging projects enjoyable. He listens, adapts, and enhances every idea, transforming client visions into realities that exceed expectations. Simply put, Josh is a renaissance man for the modern age, combining old-world craftsmanship with modern professionalism and creativity. If you’re looking to hire someone who will elevate your project to a new level, bring joy to the process, and deliver flawlessly, Josh is the craftsman you need—and he’s worth every penny.”

“I’ve known Josh for about 10 years, and I must say I’ve never met an individual quite like him. He has a wildly creative imagination. What makes him stand apart is that he has the skills and focus to bring those ideas into reality. Whether he is working with wood, metal, graphics, etc. his long, hard won path to mastery takes his artistry to an extremely high level. Onward JW.”

“Your work is exceptional — it is serious work that pits refined craftsmanship against absurdity. Your pieces are solutions to invented problems, which so much of our lives have become.”

Dr. Jeff HansPeterson, MD

“My favorite piece in my collection! Thank you Josh. You never seize to completely blow my mind. I am grateful and honored to have your art bless my art sanctuary. You’re one of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

Luke Sims
Owner/Operator of Silverton Tattoo

“I have known and worked with Josh Kinsey for about 10 years.  In that time, I have known him to be a highly responsible individual, personally and professionally.  His skillset is remarkably complete.  It extends from standard machine shop equipment and design/engineering to the latest CAD/CAM capability, to include precision 3D printing of complicated parts.  Even after 10 years of familiarity with Josh, it’s still hard to understand where the boundaries of his capabilities are.  I think that’s because when he bumps into a boundary, he learns what’s necessary to go beyond it with ubiquitous success.  He would be a broadly competent choice for a project requiring system comprehension, problem solving, component production design to include appropriate aesthetics, manufacturing, assembly and installation.

Extra Note:  When you read this, it sounds like such an overly compliment stuffed recommendation, it’s got to be suspect.  It’s not.  I’m very critical in this particular realm.  I have put my name to this document, and stand by it.”

“Josh Kinsey is one of those rare individuals with the ability to comprehend the full scope of any creative project he undertakes. His artistic instincts are evident in everything he makes, be it his own amazing creations or his construction projects. He can listen to the customer’s ideas and requirements and come up with just the right solution, creating something that not only works flawlessly but is finished with precision of a master craftsman.

Our gallery hired Josh to create a system of display panels to replace our existing units. Not only do look clean and professional, but they are movable which allows much more flexibility when curating the gallery. The project was completed as promised and on time. The gallery now looks and functions so much better.

I would never hesitate to request his help in creating most anything, knowing it would be done in a professional manner and as promised.”

“This is a most incredible piece! It is absolutely stunning and will command a position superior to everything else in a room. It is really beautiful art and built from scratch with very expensive and unique components. Well worth every penny and then some. I expected it to be good, but not this good. Can’t think of enough superlatives. Thanks, Josh. It was worth the wait.”

Samuel Davis

“I had the pleasure of meeting Josh W. Kinsey about two decades ago through the Steam Punk community, where he has lectured and creatively collaborated. I originally became quite amorous with his Harrogate Table Lamp and Hesterion Wall Sconce. Josh’s artistry is absolutely spectacular, and he continually inspires me both personally and professionally as an industrial designer, artist, and architect. There are people that make, and then there are people that invent beyond our dreams and comprehension; like Mr. Kinsey and Leonardo daVinci. Whether you want to purchase one of Josh’s many stock artisan pieces, or commission him for a large-scale architectural installation; I fully trust that you will be in awe and joy with the precisely crafted artistry he creates in wood, steel, fine metals, glass, and more. Check-out his work on-line, in person at a select group of art galleries, or if you are really lucky- at his artist studio in Oregon.”

“J.W. Kinsey has a singular talent for bringing into dimensional reality creations that feel simultaneously antique and contemporary. Adding to this modern vintage feel is an overlay of clockwork whimsy and dedication to textural variety which bring about sculptural pieces that envelop the viewer in kinetic wonder. The scope, breadth and intricacy of his works invariably leaves me bewildered and inspired that such an artistic savant is actively sharing his glorious reveries with us lucky few.”

“Awesome workmanship. Pleasure to work with….

“Josh Kinsey’s creative skills are as inclusive as the day is long. His one-of-a-kind custom lamps and objects of art absolutely defy description…nothing quite like them. His  unique pieces embody fine craftsmanship, panache, and exquisite beauty.

If he doesn’t have the specialized tool or machine necessary to finish his latest artwork or custom installation, he takes the time to make it himself. If he needs a brass cap screw with a unique thread design, size, or surface texture, Kinsey will produce it himself. From the brass metal ingot, to the casting, to the precisely milled and mirror finished product…Josh can and often does it all himself…absolutely remarkable!

Josh travels the country working with individuals, contractors, and corporations, designing and then creating uniquely mechanical, yet beautifully functional, works of art. With his multi-faceted skills repertoire, Josh Kinsey is truly a modern Renaissance Man.”

“A true alchemist! He manifests his vision from the ether with a level of precision and dedication that leaves one in awe. JW stands apart from the norm. His skill set, knowledge and attention to detail provide a perfect storm to brew up something unique to his own and meticulously summons it from his mind to the material form.

He is not a man of shortcuts, from the grand scheme to the tiny nuts and bolts, every creation is agonizingly plotted crafted sculpted or selected with the intent of creating the next best of his collection. He pushes the envelope and leaves us in awe.

I am so grateful to have witnessed various creative projects in their transformation process and find my self envious of his dedication to his craft.”

“I’ve witnessed J.W.’s artistic journey over the last thirty years.  His applied artwork in my collection is timeless and built to last.  This includes the Mathur Urn, a piece I commissioned to carry my mother’s ashes.  Over the years, I’ve used J.W.’s Wine Blending Station and seen several of his dynamic sculptures in motion.  I welcome anyone familiar with J.W from the reality television series “Steampunk’d” to explore the full oeuvre of his work.  You’ll find artisanal craftsmanship that extends beyond Steampunk, warm from his use of natural materials and handcrafted elements.”

Gaurav Mathur
Creative Director

“In addition to his stunning ability to design and make anything he thinks of in the expansive world of art, Josh Kinsey is fully able to make smart, functioning display fixtures.

For our co-op gallery, Lunaria, in Silverton Oregon, he designed and built five pairs of moveable walls with brakes.  These panels can be angled and placed in response to our changing displays… sometimes with small dead ends for “miniature galleries”… sometimes “alleyways”….and always with the ability to change the shape and dimensions of a larger area for our featured artists.

When we approached him for the project, he asked what we wanted…the big picture for then and later…and what our budget was.  He looked at it, told us what he could deliver and when and did exactly that.  We love it.

It’s a year later.  We’re now looking to the next phase.”
